Monday 6-6-2022 The Misr El Kheir Foundation launched its first report on the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals 2021, entitled “Sustainable Horizons.” This report aims to evaluate the extent to which the Foundation has adopted a sustainable development approach, and to measure what the Foundation has achieved in terms of localizing the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, through its programs, projects, and institutional performance during the year 2021. His Eminence Dr. Ali Gomaa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Misr Al Khair Foundation, stated that the Foundation is an integral part of the system of achieving development in our beloved Egypt, and that by launching such a report, we aim not only to review the Foundation’s contributions to localizing sustainable development, but also to invite Arab NGOs in general and Egyptian NGOs in particular to review their contributions to localizing sustainable development goals within their local communities. Dr. Ali Gomaa added that the Foundation is striving to maximize the role of civil society organizations in development and to contribute constructively to progress and modernity, in light of the launch of His Excellency the President of the Republic, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to declare the year 2022 as the Year of Civil Society, as well as the preparations for the Arab Republic of Egypt to host the International Conference of States Parties on Climate Change (COP27). In this regard, the Foundation has launched a regional campaign to raise awareness of civil society organizations on climate action. Jumaa also explained that the launch of the report came within the activities of the Sustainable Climate Campaign with the aim of calling on Arab NGOs to scientifically review their contribution to the localization of sustainable development goals according to a scientific methodology upon which the report was based to link the activities of non-governmental organizations to the sustainable development goals. Jumaa also indicated that the report provided the opportunity for the Foundation to review its programs and institutional performance in light of the 2030 Agenda, which is extremely important because it contributes to enabling the Foundation to formulate future plans based on accurate knowledge of what has been accomplished and the completion of more achievements. For his part, Mr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman - CEO of the Foundation, explained that the report was issued based on the expertise of the Misr El Kheir Foundation, represented by the NGO Capacity Building Unit. This report is also the first of its kind in monitoring the contributions of an Arab civil society organization in localizing the goals of sustainable development, and it is also the first annual publication. Mohamed Abdel Rahman called on all Arab associations and civil society organizations to carefully review the report and try to strive to issue similar reports in accordance with the methodology used, which is the main goal of the report. He also explained that the Misr Al-Khair unit will seek to provide technical support to those civil organizations who wish to monitor contributions in the field of localization of sustainable development goals. Pointing out: Because the Foundation has many technical and professional cadres, including volunteers and employees working in the Foundation’s branches spread across all governorates of the Republic, which has made us live and coexist among the people of our nation day by day, touching and coexisting with all the challenges they are going through, and we are trying hard to come up with solutions by activating community participation with the people of the community to strive to achieve a decent life for them in cooperation with our partners from government agencies and the private sector. In her speech, Ms. Hoda Al-Bakr, Executive Director of the Arab Network for Non-Governmental Organizations, commented that the report was distinguished from several basic angles, including that preparing the report in itself firstly contributes to building the capabilities of the cadres working within the non-governmental organization to apply the systems thinking approach and discover the direct and indirect relationships between the goals of the agenda and use this approach to discover the relationships and interactions between the non-governmental organization’s programs that may not appear clear on the surface. Secondly, the report includes an atlas explaining Misr Al-Kheir’s efforts as a civil society organization in localizing the sustainable development goals of its interest in the various governorates, which is very useful in discovering the areas that should be paid attention to in future work plans. This report is an initiative and invitation from the Misr Al-Khair Foundation to civil society organizations operating in Egypt to prepare similar periodic reports, through which each association attempts to monitor and document its contribution to implementing the 2030 Agenda and Egypt’s related vision. Professor Mohamed Mamdouh, Head of the NGO Development Sector at the Misr El Kheir Foundation, also indicated that the report consists of two basic sections, the first dealing with the institutional sustainability of Misr El Kheir and the second dealing with Misr El Kheir’s contribution to the localization of sustainable development goals. Mamdouh added that the Misr Al-Kheir Unit for Capacity Building of NGOs has taken it upon itself to provide the necessary technical support to Arab NGOs so that these organizations can provide their services well and in accordance with the 2030 Agenda.
